How do I know about the condition of a car?We translate the Auction List for you and only select cars from reputable auction houses. Japanese sellers are known for their integrity and provide highly accurate descriptions of the car’s condition.
Is my car available in Japan?
With hundreds of thousands of cars sold monthly at Japanese car auctions, there’s a high chance your desired car is available. However, some rare, very new, or non-Japanese market cars may not be widely available.
How long does it take to import a car?
The entire process takes about 1-2 months:
• 1-3 weeks to prepare the car for shipping.
• 2-3 weeks for the freight journey.
• 2-5 days to deliver the car to the Compliance Centre.
• A few days for the car to pass compliance.
Is the car insured?
Yes, your car is insured from the Auction House in Japan to the Compliance Centre in New Zealand. However, note that missing or stolen parts, or damages under $500, are not covered by insurance.
How long does it take to find a car?
Finding and buying a car may take 1-3 weeks. For rare cars, the search can extend up to 3 months, and we’re happy to accommodate this for you. If you need a car faster, you can consider adjusting your preferences, such as increasing your budget, considering a car with higher mileage, or opting for a lower auction grade. Alex will guide you throughout the process.
How soon will the car arrive after the auction is won and payment is made?
It typically takes 4-6 weeks to ship the car after purchase. During this time, the car will be de-registered and prepared for shipping, and we’ll provide you with an estimated arrival date within a week. Two ships leave Japan monthly, so the arrival time depends on the specific ship carrying your car.
After the car reaches New Zealand shores, delivery to the Compliance Centre takes 2-5 days, and compliance processing requires another 2-5 days. While delays may occur, especially during Covid-related disruptions, we ensure the wait is worth it and will keep you updated with photos from the port.
